The race in Wyoming was great, we are both very happy with our dogs and placing. Wyoming is the most beautiful state after ALASKA !!! The race use the snow machine state trails for the race which mean nice and well maintain trails. This year the race was all the way on fast trails . Usually we have one fast days and then it snows... but this year Wyoming didn't much snow in some area so all the trails we runs were fast. The team from Lloyd and Mari GILBERTSON driven by Wendy Davies was amazing. Jacques is very happy to had been second behind this team considering that our dogs are heading to Nome in less than 3 weeks. Jacques used GOOGLE, Loly and Jewel and in lead and the new start is JASPER, he was very good in the 200 and he was amazing in Wyoming. I used Memphis, Pyramid, Jenny and Janet and my new SUPERSTAR is ONYX (Jasper sister) she did 5 days in a row, and 4 in lead. Memphis will officially retire after Iditarod this year.... Kirk Barnum from Montana got Shamir and Zircon to improve is kennel and breeding program. Kirk will try Iditarod next winter. Racing in Wyoming is a pleasure all the mushers are super friendly and the official too. To me we have there the 3 best vets in Mushing WORLD: CAROLYN GRIFFITH, DENNY ALBERT and LANNIE HAMILTON. The race Marshall is THE BEST TOO : MARK NORDMAN, I think beside Mike McCowan I don't know any other PROFESSIONAL race Marshall like him. For Mark the safety of the dogs and Musher is the most important thing NOTHING come before this and this is very importnat for us too. All the official are great and very competent and this real help. Thanks to Frank for organizing a great race and working with TOP OF THE LINE POEPLE.... La course du Wyoming c'est bien déroulé et nous sommes super content de nos chiens et de nos classements respectifs. Wyoming est l’état le plus beau (après l'Alaska). La course utilise les pistes de snowmachine maintenue par l'état. Les pistes sont toujours magnifiques. Cette année tous les jours la pistes a été rapide, généralement nous avons un jour très rapide et les autres il neige mais non cette année pas beaucoup de neige au Wyoming donc les pistes ont été tout le temps très rapides. L'attelage de Lloyd et Mari Gilbertson (conduit par Wendy Davies) a été superbe tout le long. Jacques est très fier d'avoir été deuxième derrière un attelage aussi parfait en considérant que nous chiens partent pour Nome dans moins de 3 semaines. Jacques a utilisé Google, Jewel, Loly en tête et JASPER a été suprenant, il avait été excellent à la 200 miles début Janvier et il a été superbe à la Wyoming. Moi j'avais bien sure mon amour de chienne MEMPHIS mais aussi Jenny, Janet, Pyramid et une nouvelles super chienne ONYX (soeur de Jasper). Elle a fait 5 jours de suite dont 4 étapes en tête sans aucuns problèmes. GRAND ESPOIRS... Dans mes autres "jeunes" KONGA a été EXCEPTIONNELLE 5 jour de suite aussi pour elle et DIAMOND a été très très bon aussi. Memphis est officiellement a la retraite a sont retour de l'Iditarod!!! Un ami du Montana a pris Shamir et Zircon pour améliorer son chenil et programme de reproduction. Il fera l'Iditarod l'hiver prochain. Courir au Wyoming est comme faire une course avec des amis... l'atmosphère est super et tout le monde parlent et rigole avec tout le monde mushers et officiels. Super cette course il y a A MON AVIS les 3 meilleurs véto dans le domaine des chiens de traîneau au monde: CAROLYN GRIFFITH, DENNY ALBERT et LANNIE HAMILTON... il y en a peut être une/un autre mais je ne l'ai pas rencontrer encore mais ces 3 là sont SUPERNANTES!!! Le Race Marshall est aussi l'un des meilleurs dans le business (l'autre aussi bon est un autre ami proche Mike McCowan). J'ai eu l'honneur de courir sous l'ordre de ces deux Race Marshall et quand vous savez sans aucun doute que vos chiens et votre sûreté est la chose la plus importante pour eux cela aide beaucoup .... Les autres officiel: Chrono, juges sont super aussi!!! MERCI a Frank d’organiser une si belle course. Apres le Wyoming nous sommes passé à Lincoln au Montana et 2 jours &14hr plus tard nous étions à la maison... Pour voir des photos allez sur le lien ci dessous.

WE ARE BACK

We arrived this morning at 1:30 am at the kennel. 2days and 14hrs to come back from Lincoln Montana (3000 miles) Now we are super busy with Iditarod food drop due Feb 12th.... I write about the WYOMING race soon... Lot of stories about this WONDERFUL race. Magali		Nous sommes arrivé au chenil ce matin a 1h30. Nous avons mis 2 jours et 14hr pour venenir de Lincoln (Montana). environ 4800km. Maintenant nous sommes super occupé avec le "food drop" pour L'iditarod qui doit etre livre le 12 fevrier. week in wyoming

GREAT TRAINING IN WYOMING

We really enjoyed the week of training in western Wyoming. We spend few days in Lander and we got a good snow fall about 18 inch in town and 2 ft on top of the mountains, great training the snow was deep but I liked how my team reacted to the very deep snow and snowmachines ruts. I had Memphis and Pyramid in lead, many times I couldn’t see them but I just gave commands and the team was reacting like they were suppose too. After we went to Dubois and did 3 training runs there. One was up on Union pass, where you get a spectacular view. One was on the CD trail (Continental divide) and we went by the overlook of the divide, I couldn’t really stop with the dogs but the view was for sure great. This area of Dubois burned last summer so you can see on our gallery some image of the trails and the burned trees.

Thursday we went to Jackson and visited with Arman Cadol a friend that was born and raised in France. We had good time visiting him. Friday was the vet check and we decided the 16 dogs we will each run. Go on the link below to see our teams:

After the vet check we went to the Chiropractor. His name is Dr Tiger and he is very good he works a lot with dogs and horses. He is amazing. After doing all the dogs he worked on my back and neck and he told me a in way worth shade than my dogs!!!! Remaining soreness from last winter (hard crash in the French Alps). My spoas muscle still isn’t hilled up and my neck/Skull are not staying aligned…. Anyhow he worked on my problems and it really helps.

At 7pm was the start of the ceremonial start, 3miles in town… Lots of people. I took 5 dog team lead by Memphis and Jenny.

Since this year there is lot of stage where we don’t go on a “loop” and since we have no handler our friend Mari Wood offered tp drive our truck during those stages. Her daughter will driver her truck (John is racing) and this is a GREAT RELIEF FOR US..

Today we are in Lander enjoying a day OFF before the race, getting truck cleaned up and sled ready. I enjoy Howard and ¨Princess and they just got 3 new calves so I went and checked them out and took some photos all theses are on the PHOTO GALLERY!!!

we are in beautiful WYOMING

We arrived couples days ago in Wyoming . we arrived late in the evening in Jackson Hole and spend the night there in our trucks. We are 3 trucks traveling together, Melanie and Warren Palfrey (from Yellowknife). since our Van was loaded me and Mel share Warren camper... very confortable.... The next day (yesterday) we drove to Dubois and trained there on a 28 miles loop, the trail are beautiful and in great conditions there. after this training run Mel and Warren decided to stay one more day in Dubois to train and we headed to Lander to meet our friends and host family for over 10 years Howard and Princess Killebrew. Howard is a rancher and raise very tasty BLACK ANGUS and sale hyrigstion systems. Princess is a school teacher. Today we trained in Lander started from the Sinks Canyon went up the switch back and did about 24 miles run. the road going up the switch back is under construction, contructions are stopped for the winter but going up and mostly going down is pretty interesting.... It is so nice to stay with Princess and Howard they are genuine nice poeple and this make this trip and this race so pleasant... friend that open there home to our dogs and us and are just plain nice. bye for now		Nous sommes maintenant au Wyoming, nous sommes arrives jeudi soir a Jackson nous avons passe la nuit a Jackson. Nous voyagons a 3 camion, Melanie Shirilla et Warren Palfrey (il est de Yellowknife au Canada). Nous sommes un grand groupe d'amis. Le matin nous avons continue nore route vers DUBOIS et nous avons entrainer sur 40km. Les pistes sont magnifiques et ls pistes en super conditions. Melanie et Warren ont decide de rester une journee de plus a Dubois et nous ommes parti vers Lander pour voir nos amis et notre famille d'acceuil depuis plus de 10 ans: Howard et Princess Killebrew. Howard est eleveur de tres "bonne" vache BLACK ANGUS et il vend aussi des systemes d'urrigation. Princess est institutrice. Aujourd'hui nous avons entraine a Lander nous avons fait environ 35 km. Demain nous entrainerons surement encore une fois ici avant de retourner a Dubois A bientot

MY FIRST 200 MILES RACE DONE

MY FIRST 200 MILES RACE DONE,

Well what a week end…. Thursday we spend most of the day packing the food drop for the race. Friday evening was the musher meeting we slept in our Van in Seeley Lake instead of going back to Lincoln (1h30mn drive one way).

Saturday the race stared at 8am. I was number 4 and Jacques 10. I passed the teams in front of me after 45mn the start then I was opening the trail, it was snowing and the trail was soft and deep. Then Jacques passed me about 1h30mn after I started. Jacques arrived the first one in Owl Creek I was behind him (45mn) then Doug arrived then Mel. Jacques left the Owl creek after his 4hr mandatory stop at 5:47, Doug was 10mn behind him then Mel 15mn after and I was 10mn behind Mel. The run from Seeley was about 5hr for the first team; I was about 5hr 30mn.

The run from Owl Creek back to Seeley was all a night run it was faster because it cold down and the trail was packed from all the teams that was running the race. For Jacques and Doug the return trip to Seeley was about 4hr 45mn.

In Seeley we had a 6hr mandatory the routine of distance Mushing was on arrive, feed dog, give them Hay, take care of feet or other injuries get to sleep and get some rest.

I arrived just in front of Melanie like 30 seconds….

I have a hard time with sleep depravation so when I get tired I don’t eat I just want to sleep!

Mel and I were having fun being together! I dropped Zircon and Egypt in Seeley Zircon has a small feet crack and didn't’t run right. Egypt seems to have a sour wrist so I decided to rest them. Mel was also running 10 dogs. Jacques and Doug both had 12 dogs team screaming to go… We were heading for a 80 miles run heavy snow and wind were in for the day… It was SLOW and HARD GOING!!!! I MEAN SLOW!!! I had to kick DOWNHILL to keep going…. After about 30/35 miles we went thought a meadow that was really punchy and Hercules fell off the trail and hurt his right shoulder. I had to load him and he is about 55 pounds (my biggest dog n the team) so this REALLY slow me down, I was no far from Mel until I loaded him then I was all by myself on the trail in heavy wet snow in strong WIND…

I did the 80 miles in 9hr Jacques, Doug and Mel were about 8hr. During this run I switch leader because it was so hard going… I removed Memphis to give her a break and used Pyramid with Jenny then Jenny got tired of it so I had Onyx with Pyramid for about 25 miles then before the finish I put back Memphis with Pyramid so make sure I go through people and trucks.

Doug won the race just in front of Jacques. Jacques was in lead until few yards from the finish line, they were opening trail and our dog found fresh White Tail deer and got off the trail Doug passed Jacques, Doug waited for Jacques and Jacques told Doug to go in front and the two teams came one in front of the other.

This was a great learning experience but I am not sure I like DISTANCE Mushing I have high respect for all the musher but I don’t really like doing it!!!! I am very proud of my team and Jacques team’s of course. I lost weight since beside couple cookies and hand full of Gummy Bears I didn't’t eat anything for over 2 days.

After the race banquet we headed back to Lincoln knowing of nd heavy snow storm happening there, 2 miles from Doug and Mel’s house Warren Palfrey (musher from Yellowknife also staying at Swingley’s place) was stuck off the road with his 20ft goose neck trailer, his big dodge truck couldn't’t pull it… we spend 2hr working on it ended up unloading dog food and meat to allow the truck to pull the trailer in deep wet snow drift. We chained up the van and follow then after we go to move. Doug had to stop ¼ mile from his place crawl through the 4 and 6ft snow drift, start his dozer open the driveway and then pull the truck and trailer to his place !!! what a night we got to bed at about 2am very tired !!!

getting ready for the 200 mile race

SEELEY LAKE 200		SEELEY LAKE 300 km
We dedided to enter 2 teams in the 200 miles race this week end. the race is called SEELEY LAKE 200. this will be my first ever non stop distance race. I am super nervous about it since I don't do good with "sleep depravation" the dogs are in great shape so like always I will be the wickest point of the team. Yesterday we planned on doing a 100 miles run with a 1hr break but going up "huckleberry" pass the strom had drop over 8 inches of snow, in the valley it was raining and super windy. We did time wise what we had planned but distance wise I think only 80 miles. The dog did awesome job. Jacques had Jewel and Google in Lead and me Memphis and Jenny. We use small LED headlamp on our leader. This allow snowmachines to see us and also last night when you are in a snow strom it is very tiering to stare at your leaders with your headlamp while big snowflakes comes at you.. this allow us to see our leaders, they see the trail and we don't have to stare that much.... Today we are getting ready for the race, there is a food drop. Jacques is training the dog that will not go on the 200 miles race on 20 miles.... we had this morning a major snow strom so it will take him a while to go 20 miles. I will write about the race monday or thuesday I created a new ALBUM on our gallery it is called MONTANA TRAINING		Nous avons decide d'inscrire deux attelages dans une course de 300 km ce week end. Cela sera ma premiere course lomgue distance non stop. Jesuis verveuse car je supporte tres mal le "manque de sommeil" donc ... Les chiens sont en super forme mais enmcore une fois le membre le plus faible de l'equipe sera MOI. Hier nous avIons PREVU DE FAIRE 160KM avec 1hr d'arret, en fin de compte nous avons fait un entrainement de 10 hr, 9hr de course et 1hr d'arret nous sommes parti du chenil il pleuvait, en montant au col "huckleberry" j'ai ouvert la piste avec plus de 20cm de neige ensuite dans l'autre valle il pleuvait a nouveau et donc nous chiens lors de cet entrainement on du ouvrir la piste dans neige profonde, courrir sur la glace, patoge dans l'eau et remonte le col avec encore plus de neige que le matin... ILS ONT ETE SUPER. Jacques avait Jewel et Google en tete moi Memphis et Jenny. On utilisons des petites lampes frontale a LED qui nous sont fournis par ENERGIZER, nous en mettons a nos chiens de tete, dans la tempete cela m'a permis ne me repose les yeux car fixer les chiens de tete avec la frontale avec les flocons qui nous arrivent dans les yeux c'est fatiguant. Aujourd'hui nous nous preparons pour la course nous avons un "food drop" a faire. Jacques entraine sur 30km les chiens qui ne feront pas la 300km. Ce matin il y a eu une grosse tempete de neige donc ca va lui prendre longtemp pour faire 30km. 29 december news

LONG DAY		LONGUE JOURNEE
We are having great training here new snow made the trails PERFECT HERE! We are doign 53 miles now, we have to go over a pass at 7000ft to go back down in the valley turn aorund and go back up the pass, great workout for the dogs. I did it in 4h50mn and Jacques 4h30mn. We both had 10 dog team. Other news the French Race was canceled yesterday morning, less than a week before the start! (Jacques was going to drive for Chicago on the 31st) This is ridiculous and a real proof of NON PROFESSIONALISM !!!!! 4 years ago when Henry came here and we made him met Rudy and other people that had EXPERIENCE !!! with the ALPIROD that organizing race at 3000ft altitude is not a good idea because of snow problems... ALPIROD staff run into this problems but of course the LGO staff thing they knew better then now look !!!!! So for us this is "plan B" we will race the 200 miles race here Jan 6th then help for the 300 miles race and then go to Wyoming for training. Dogs are getting a great training here so we are happy. I write longer later !!! Magali		Nous avons de super conditions d'entrainement ici nous faison maintenant 85 km, nous devons passer un col redescendre dans la vallée faire 1/2 tour et remonter e haut pour repasser le col et descdre vers l'autre vallée ou se trouve Lincoln. Cest un super entrainement pour les chiens ! Hier pour la premier fois Jacques a mis 4h30mn et moi 4h50mn nous avions tous les deux des attelages de 10 chiens. Autres nouvelles, la Grande Odyssée a été annulée hier a moins d'une semaine du depart, Jacques devait partir pour Chicago le 31 décembre. C'est ridicule et une preuve de non professionalisme. Il y a 4 ans quand Henry est venu nous voir pour presenter son idée nous lui avons fait rencontrer des gens CLEFS dans l'organization de l'Alpirod comme Rudy et tous lui on dit attention organizer des evenements a 1000m d'altitude c'esr riqué pour la neige... Mais non il pensait "savoir mieux" bref voila le resultat. Pour nous noufaison donc "plan B" nous courront une course de 300km le 6 janvier et nous aideront pour une course de 450km le week end suivant et ensuite nous partirons pour le Wyoming. Les conditions d'entrainements sont superbes ici nous sommes ravies. J'ecrirais d'autres news bientot Magali

MONTANA NEWS

I will try to write in English and then French for each post during the racing season....

Montana News,

We are really enjoying the trails here in Lincoln, soft, warm trail, perfect to get our dogs in shape for the race. The top of the mountain got like 3 inches of snow, at the bottom where Doug and Mel’s kennel here we only got rain but the trails are still nice. Nice warm temperatures make it nice for the feet, no booties to worry about!!!!
Jacques will start driving to Chicago the 31st in the morning. With the 14 dogs he will have selected by then.
I will stay at Doug and Mel’s place and may race in the Seeley 200 miles race starting Jan 6th. The schedule is somewhat like this, go 55 miles 4hr mandatory stop, then go for other 55 miles with then a 6hrs mandatory stop then 80 miles to the finish.

Anyhow we really enjoy our friends, they are so nice, open their house and kennel for us and make everything so easy, and this is so nice… It is nice to know that even between competitors (they are our main competition in WY) you can still be great friend and help each other each time you can.

Now we are going 35 miles and we go over a pass at 7000ft, the kennel is at 5000ft altitude. Dogs are getting used to altitude and wide trail warm and soft trails. Once again we are so glad we came down here to train.

Nouvelles du Montana,

On apprécie vraiment d’être au Montana (nous sommes arrive le 23 dec), il fait chaud et la neige humide et fraîches permettent a nos chiens de se mettre en parfaite conditions pour les courses.

Hier il a neige 7cm en haut de la montagne, ici au chenil nous n’avons eu que des gouttes de pluie mais les pistes sont en bonnes état. Les températures relativement chaudes nous permettent de ne pas mettre de bottes aux chiens dans la neige fraîche.
Jacques partira vers Chicago le 31 décembre, il part pour le France le 2 Janvier et il a 2000 km a faire depuis le Montana.
Moi je resterais au Montana chez mes amis Doug Swingley et Melanie Shirilla. J’aurais 22 chiens a entraîner. Je penses peut être faire une course de 300km non stop le 6 janvier. Le planning de la course est a peu près comme ceci : Départ pour 90km repos min obligatoire de 4hr, re-départ pour 90km repos de 6hr min obligatoire et dernier morceau de 130km.

Nous apprécions vraiment d’être chez nous amis au Montana, ils sont si gentils et nous ont ouvert leur maison pistes. C’est très agréable d’avoir de si bons amis sachant qu’ils sont notre compétition principale sur les courses à étapes, mais cela n’empêche rien à l’amitié et de nous aider entre nous.

Nous faisons des entraînement de 60km ici le chenil est a 1500metre d’altitude et nous passons a un col qui est a 2100metre d’altitude. Nous chiens ont de super entraînements pour les habitués aux pistes pour les courses a étapes.

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM MONTANA

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF YOU READING OUR BLOG

We arrived in Montana yesterday morning; the truck didn’t play any trick on us on the way so this is VERY GOOD.
After we unloaded some of the truck we got ready and trained 2 teams on sled… I had forgotten how nice it was to be on a sled, no engine to gas to buy etc…

Yesterday we both took 6 dogs teams and went 20 miles to check the trails and snow conditions.

Today we both run 2 teams; I took 2 teams of 7 dogs and Jacques 2 teams of 8 dogs. The trails are very nice here we just have to know them a little more to not get lost or figure out itinerary.

Mel and Doug are very nice and we are close friends. They have a kennel of 80 some dogs and to my pleasure ELMER is still around he is 17 years old now…. He is the father, grand father and great grand father to ALL the dogs from the Swingley racing kennel.

Doug took off early this morning for a long run and he will be back late tonight..

READY TO LEAVE

Hi my last post until we reach Montana !
Today was our last 4 wheeler training next time it will be on sled in Montana.

36 dogs had been selected... I decided to leave here Hector, nothing wrong with him but he is not a great eater this season so I decide to give him a break and next season will be a big one for him....

The dogs we are taking are:

Updates

In 5 days or less we will drive to Montana with 36 dogs in the truck plus Keops our little Poodle.

Jacques still run 16 dogs on the 4 wheeler I went down to 2 teams of 12 dogs. By next thuesday on 36 will be loaded in the truck.
Jacques adult dogs have about 1300 miles of training and mine 1000 miles.

Here's what our dog teams looked like today for the dog line-up:

NOT MUCH SNOW IN THE ALPS EITHER

We had been looking at the snow falls in France and not much there either
They got an other 2.5 inches yesterday which is good!

It is a big logistic to leave our kennel, one of us will be in MT the other one in France, so all have to be double and we have to make sure we don't forget anything important. We have to double check all the paperworks for traveling with the dogs and the new changing EEC Regulations make sure your nerves are "well attached"!!!

Our dog food sponsor ROYAL CANIN have dog food and dishes an leashes waiting for us when Jacques arrives in France.
ANTIPODE will provide the best racing sled there is for Jacques.
ENERGIZER FRANCE is like last year our sponsor for all our needs in Lithium batteries and small headlamps.
Thanks to Aurelie who just found a new job but she told her new boss that she is gone 2 weeks early January to help Jacques... THANKS TO HER !!!

ONE WEEK TO GO

Hello,
in a week we should be heading or already on the Alaska Highway with Lincoln Montana for final destination.
Let's hope our massive dog truck will not play any trick on us like loosing a tire or loosing his transmission...

We are training 20 miles and 35 miles we are selecting dogs, we still have "too many" so we are getting picky. Jacques decided to not take Shamir to France so she will be in Montana with me.
For sure the one I am training and that are going with me are: Memphis, Janet, Pyramid, Onyx, Jenny, Mulder, Zircon, Diamond then we will see just before we go I don't plan on taking Edfu but I am looking at taking Denver.
It would be so nice to be on sled and select the one that don't like the "sled pace"... but can't do this this year...
