STEVE VISITING FROM ENGLAND

VISITOR FROM ENGLAND

VISITE D'ANGLETERRE

Steve arrived few days ago for 4 weeks to visit us. He live in the UK near London and has one dog of us STING and he got couple more that are still here waiting for the Quarantine to be over to fly in UK. He has Siberian huskies and he want to have "real race dogs" !! so he came over to learn since he is almost the only one with Alaskan over there !!!!

Steve got a "wake up" with our 30 below temperature !! He is very nice and helpful.

I took him on sled and he drove his on 4 dogs team few days ago but I don't really have time right now with Iditarod coming so fast to teach time more... I promise when we come back from Anchorage I spend way more time teaching things.

He is so nice, clean the dish, scoop poop, walk puppies.... I guess he realize how busy we are...

I feel bad for him but I'll make it up to him in a week !!!!

OK I have to go back to my IDITAROD ACTIVITIES

ALASKAN HUSKIES

I just read this article by Joe Runyan on the Cabelas Web site about the ALASKAN HUSKIES...

Great article it is so hard to tell people what is an ALASKAN HUSKY...
I always answer it is not a breed but a type of working dogs...  They are only bred and selected for working/sport purpose and it should remain like this to have OUTSTANDING ATHLETES

This article is very good read it !

COLD CAMPING TRIP

CAMPING TRIP ALASKA WAY

CAMPING TRES FRAIS

We came back this morning around 5am from a 130 miles camping trip.
It took us total of 18H30mn  including a give or take 6hr stop.

It was cold 20 below when we left the kennel here in the hills, probably 25 below on the river. When we left the Minto flats it was probably 20 below and it dropped as we got closer to Nenana to about 40 below on some spots...

All the dogs were dressed up with booties and coats... and I used the magical "chemical warmers" to make it through the trip !!!!

Temperature are going to remain cold for the next few days....

In couple of days we will go for a long run and then he will load it as he plan on loading it for the race.... So he can get a good routine.

LANCE MACKEY IN LEAD

Lance has 4 hours lead

Lance à 4 hr d'avance

Yukon Quest, Lance Mackey has 4hr lead on William Kleethen in Dawson. Pretty impressive... William has himself 1 hour on Hugh Neff but William didn't leave at his exact allowed time from Dawson and heis now only 20 minutes ahead of Hugh.
Hans Gatt is 7hr behind Lande at the Half Way checkpoint of Dawson.

There is still 25 teams in the race, only 3 scratch.
Sur la Yukon Quest Lance Mackey  à 4hr d'avance sur William Kleethen à Dawson. Impressionnant.

PUPPY TRAINING

HARNESS BRAKING PUPPIES PART 1

DEBOURGAE DES CHIOTS PREMIRE PARTIE

Yesterday I harness broke the 4 pups from Memphis and they did great.

I went 3 miles (shortest loop here) and used a 6 dog team with 2 pups in each team.

I have my old leader in front... One team had Corona and Crow in lead and the other one Smallet and Hyder.
Snefru and Zoser didn't wonder what they had to do... Tity and Khaba were not sure for the first few yard then they go the idea real quick.

I love harness braling pups they are so funny to watch... and the first couple of times they still are shy about the all deal so easy to handle and put the harness on...
Already at the end of the 3 miles Zoser was jumping and screaming.... I guess he will be like his mom...

I'll do more pups tomorow today we go about 100 miles run with the Iditarod dogs.

Bye

Bye,

TITY

ZOSER

IDITAROD SLED

New Iditarod Sled

Nouveau traineau Iditarod

We received today Jacques new sled for Iditarod.
Made by ANITPODE in France... The sled is beautiful and  looks great.
It is a 5ft sled in the front with a back part where Jacques can have his cooler and other stuff and sit on it.
Also WINDSHIELD to protect from the wind and special addition to protect Jacques hands if he encounter a tree like he did in 2005.

Tomorow Jacques will try the sled and I should have more photos.
Below are the photos take tonight in the garage when we put it together.
